Promoting British Values

The Department for Education state that there is a need “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.” The government set out its definition of British values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy and the Prime Minister reiterated these values in 2014.

At Aldrington C of E Primary School we take our responsibility to prepare children for life in modern Britain very seriously. We ensure that the fundamental British Values are promoted through our school vision and values, our curriculum provides a vehicle for furthering understanding of these concepts and, in particular, our values based collective worship, RE, PSHE and Citizenship lessons provide excellent opportunities to deepen and develop understanding.
